Tesco's Bags of Help

Olney Junior Bowling Club has been selected for the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.

Bags of Help is Tesco's exciting local community grant scheme where the money raised by the sale of carrier bags is being used to fund thousands of local projects in communities right across the UK.

Every time you shop at a nominated Tesco store you can collect a token that you can then pop into a box to ‘vote’ for the project you want to get the greatest share of funding, which has come as a result of the 5p cost of a carrier bag.

We will be one of three projects seeking funding with grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 available.

Having our application accepted means we will receive at least £1,000 to spend on our junior section, but this could rise to one of the higher grants depending on how many votes we receive.

The ‘voting’ period is May and June and,for us, the main Tesco store that is involved is the Olney shop on Market Place, but other stores are involved and you can vote in any of these:

MK Express Heelands

MK Express Greenleys

Newport Pagnell

What can you do?

Obviously shop at one of these stores, collect a token and ‘vote’ for us.

There is no minimum spend so even buying something as small as a newspaper will let you pick up a token.

You can also tell all your friends, relatives and neighbours to support us by shopping at these stores and ‘voting’ with a token - remember, you might need to ask for one.

How are we going to use the money?

We had to supply a ‘wish list’ as part of the application, and a lot depends on how much we get before we decide what to spend it on.  Clearly with an increasing number of Juniors, new sets of bowls are a priority and to back that up, additional coaching equipment in a necessity.
