Apr 15   2018 brought in a new concept to the club when we organised our very first formal opening of the green when we held our very first Green Opening Day.   Following on a tradition of clubs elsewhere in the UK, we formalised the opening - see what happened by following  this link.

Mar 25   If you have some time free on Sunday 25th March a working party will be cleaning the clubhouse and surrounds
to get it ready for our new Opening Day which will be kicking off the beginning of the bowling season.  If you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated.

If you are able to get along, we will be starting from 1000 am onwards and Rory has asked that you email him to enable him to have an idea of how many people will be turning up.

Oct 21   Our AGM provides an opportunity for members to have their say in the way the club is run, the rules that should be in place and to receive feedback from the committee that has seen the club through the current year and learn just how well the club has gone both financially and results wise.   It also provides an opportunity for members to propose changes and to raise any issues they feel require an answer from the committee.

Please note that any motion which a member would like to be presented to the AGM must be proposed and seconded in writing and sent to the Secretary by 5th November 2017.    Also, any member who wishes to be nominated for the committee or role of Lady Captain must send their name along with the name of their proposer and seconder to the Secretary by the same date.   Please note that the Social Sub Committee position is still vacant and at the time of writing,  nominations have been received from Dave Waddell, Jean Cobelli and Sue Rogers.

Aug 24   Congratulations to Mick Richardson who was only a couple of points away from winning through to the final of the Champion of Champions competition at the recent Bowls England National Championships at Leamington Spa.
Having overcome Chris Gale (Lancs) by 5 shots and Ryan Atkins (Hereford) by a single shot, In the semi final, Mick met Russell Francis (Hertfordshire) who was the victor by 21 shots to Micks 20.   Russell met Glen Williams (Wiltshire) but was unable to stop him in a game that saw Glen win by 21 points to 17.
A brilliant performance by Mick which saw him so close to getting into the final - a proud moment for Olney Bowling Club.

This morning (Saturday 22/7/17) Mick Richardson beat Adie Twinn of Watlington Bowling Club 21-12 in the area final.  It was great to see a few members of Olney Bowling Club at Watlington to support Mick.  He now progresses to the last 16 at the National Finals at Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa on Tuesday 22 August 2017.  His first round match will be at 1200 hours against the area finalist of Cumbria/Durham/Lancashire/Northumberland and Yorkshire.
The committee hope that Mick will be well supported on the day.  Our club should be proud of his achievement.

May 15    After a very successful Open Day and the successful start of our Junior Section which already has fourteen youngsters signed up, we are in need of at least another six or seven coaches.  Rory and Dave Waddell
have put their names forward but more are needed, so if anyone would like to join them on a coaching course, then please let Rory know.  Please remember that you do not have to be an outstanding bowler to attend this course but two or three years of bowling experience would be preferable.

Apr 18   The green and bar will open on Wednesday 19th April, come down and see how it has weathered the winter

Apr 17   Jan Goldsmith has now completed the rotas for Club House Cleaning and Kitchen/Table Duties for the coming season. These are now posted in the clubhouse so please make sure that you take a look and put the dates in your diaries.

Apr 12    Big thanks to the teams who have worked to bring the green, clubhouse and surrounds up to date in preparation for the new season.   New for this year will be the rubber matting which has been installed in the ditches and will keep the grit off the green and bowls.

Mar 17 - At the recent Committee meeting, the board adopted the Newport Pagnell & Olney Lions Club as our Charity of the Year.   A number of initiatives will be taking place with donations being generated being given to the Lions.  This is the third year where the club has supported a local charitable organisation (Willen Hospice & William Crooks Brighter Future Fund being the others).   The president of the Lions Club, John Ferris said "it is heartwarming to see one local organisation supporting another within the town and any funds raised by the Bowling club will be put to good use within our local, national and international community".  Find out more about the activities of Lions by visiting their website..

Mar 6 - Olney Bowling Club are keen to introduce a Junior Section to the club.  In order to accomplish this goal, we will need a member or members of the club to be in charge of the organisation of a Junior Section.

Our coaches are keen to help and The Buckinghamshire Bowls Association are in the process of organising a County Junior Section with Open Days, Competitions and Coaching supervised by qualified Bows England coaches and under the watchful eye of John Lonergan, President of the BBA.   This could be good opportunity for the youth of Olney and our club.   If you are interested please contact our club Secretary on 01234 712460.

Jan 8 - Following a recent Council meeting held in Christchurch, New Zealand on 5th December 2016, a proposed amendment to the Laws of the Sport was unanimously approved by the World Bowls Council.   This proposal relates to the grooved rings surrounding the centre of the bowl and effectively removes the requirement to have large grooved rings surrounding the non bias side.   For full details, refer to the email sent by the Secretary to all members dated 7th January.
